Holiday in Istabul, Turkey, May 2002
These pages contain a selection of photos from my recent trip to Turkey from 29th May to 2nd June, 2002. The majority of my time was spent seeing the sights of Istanbul with a day trip to Bursa, directly south from Istanbul across the Marmara Sea.

Istanbul is a unique city in that it spans 2 continents, Europe and Asia. Within the European side, there is also an "old city", based around Sultanahmet (where we stayed) and a "new city", based around Taksim. The new city appears similar to many modern, western cities with its collections of glass, high-rise office blocks and 5 star hotels. In contrast, the old city contains the majority of Istanbul's attractions including the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, St Sophia's and the Grand Bazaar. The two sides are separated by the Golden Horn, or Haliç, a river flowing into the Bosphorus near its mouth into the Sea of Marmara.
